Preventive Properties of Aspirin
Have you ever wondered why people take one aspirin daily? The truth of the matter is that aspirin, when taken appropriately, as prescriped by a doctor, is recognized for its' ability to not only relieve aches and pain due to inflammation; but aspirin also greatly reduce the incidence of heart attacks and blood vessel disease.
The way that aspirin works is that it reduces the stickiness of the blood or thins the blood so that platelets or blood cells do not stick together. This enables the blood to flow without clotting, thus preventing blockage, shortness of breathe and consequent stroke or heart attack.
While aspirin alone should not be mistaken for a cure for heart disease and stroke, you should note that aspirin is an effective and agent in prevention and is proven to have significantly reduced the onset of such diseases.
Since aspirin does have some common side effects; stomach irritation, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, heartburn, severe hunger, abdominal pain or bloody stool, you should consult with your doctor before taking this over the counter medication.
Important things to remember when taking aspirin:
1. Take low dose, enteric-coated, 81mg aspirin as prescribed by your doctor. Enteric coated aspirin is less irritating to the stomach.
2. Take aspirin with food to coat the stomach and to prevent side effects mentioned above.
3. If you see blood in your stool, consult with your doctor immediately.
